There is only one gas station in a town. We recommend to arriving with a full tank because they occasionally run out and gas is sold at higher price.
Crestone has a population of about 150 permanent residents. The adjoining Baca Grande has about 1,000 homes, with over 2000 properties still uninhabited. The “Baca” also contains over a dozen centers of different traditional spiritual and religious practices and retreats. The elevation is over 8,000 feet and is located at the base of the 14,000 foot high Sangre de Cristo Mountains stretching from Salida, Colorado to Taos, New Mexico.
Due to the high elevation it is recommended that you drink lots of water and even supplement beverages with electrolytes. Bring what you need because the closest civilization is an hour's drive away, either south to Alamosa or north to Salida, via Moffat.
There is an airport in Alamosa that is a satellite of the Denver International Airport. There is 1 flight daily to and from Denver. There is no taxi, Uber or transportation services available in the county except for a early morning daily bus to Moffat and then to Salida. There is also a bus from Salida to Denver.
